2. What does our brain do?
Brain is a very important organ of our body. It is placed securely in
the skull, also known as brain box. The brain controls our body.
It contains more than 10 billion neurons with complex pathways
linking our senses, our movements and memory.
It uses information from our sensory organs like the eyes and ears
and decides the action to be taken and sends messages through the
nerves to the muscles or gland concerned.
We learn things and can remember them later because the brain can
store the information.
The three main parts of the brain are:
(i) Cerebrum-The largest part which controls conscious feelings and
voluntary movements.
(ii) Cerebellum-It controls the muscles and body balance.
(iii) Medulla-This controls involuntary actions like breathing.
